Well, it really depends on two things. First it depends on the size of what you’re painting. Second it depends on the complexity of your design. It will take a few hours, at least, including drying times between layers. How long does leather paint last on an item? for a little while. It’s ok if it’s still a little damp when you go on to step 4. 4. Apply the Cleaner/Deglazer You apply the finishes in the same way that you apply your paint. With a clean brush or cloth with thin, even strokes. It will dry completely clear.

Wipe the leather down first with the Leather Prep. This will remove any grease, wax or silicone on the leather, preparing it properly for painting. It will also dull the finish. This step is not necessary if you are painting fabric or canvas. The Leather Paint will adhere best to a properly prepared surface, so this is an important step in the process. 2 - Painting Leather You don’t need to add thinner to your paint, but certainly can if you prefer (unless you are using an airbrush, then you must use thinner). Be aware that adding too much thinner can cause the paint to go on watery and streaky. It's not simply a case of applying any leather dye you can lay your hands on. This process needs careful handling if you want the best results. It’s also a good idea to apply a shoe cream or polish to rehydrate the leather—you can apply several coats to help protect your leather and make it look even more beautiful 3. Apply Water Proofing (if desired) Just like leather dye, you want to be sure that you are applying your paint to a clean and open surface. That means removing any finish, oils, or build up that may be on your leather.Leather paint is primarily for producing creative designs on leather items, should you wish to restore colour, repair colour loss or damage to leather you will need to use one of our Leather Repair Products.

Our Leather Paint is designed to paint custom designs onto leather. If you are looking to repair leather, then you should use our Leather Repair Kit. 1 - Preparing the leather for paintingAs the name suggests, leather paints are specifically made for painting intricate and decorative designs onto all items of leather. If you need to repair an item of leather, you're best using one of our leather repair products. Oils and finishes are often applied to leathers to provide water resistance, softness, or just style. But just handling your leather with bare hands can deposit oil on the leather that you may not see until you try to put color over it. Especially if you put on a hand cream or just finished eating a greasy lunch! Allow the dye plenty of time to dry before applying paint on top of it. Be sure to buff any excess pigment before your paint application as well. There is a description of different finisher options in the materials section above. You can apply the finisher with a brush or rag. Again, you want to apply a thin, even coat. After you apply the finisher, let it dry for 24 hours before using your painted leather or going on to any next steps. 2. For Shoes
