About this deal

On our own EcuTek development vehicle we have fitted an Innovate MTX-L wide-band AFR gauge into the dashboard air duct and have welded an extra lambda sensor fitting into our exhaust manifold/header to accept the additional wide-band sensor. EcuTek development GT86 Wideband Install With that said, not all cars have air fuel ratio gauges but you can install one in your car if you want to monitor the AFR. Of course, there are benefits when it comes to monitoring your AFR: The AFR sensor operation can be thought of as being similar to the hot wire mass airflow sensor (MAF). But, instead of an MAF hot wire, the ECM tries to keep a perfectly stoichiometric air/fuel ratio inside the monitoring chamber by varying the pump cell circuit current. The sensing part at the tip of the sensor, is always held at a constant voltage (depending on manufacturer). If the mixture goes rich, the ECM will adjust the current flowing through the sensing tip or pump cell circuit until the constant operating voltage level is achieved again. The voltage change happens very fast. The current through the pump circuit also pushes along the oxygen atoms either into, or out of, the diffusion chamber (monitoring chamber) which restores the monitoring chamber's air/fuel ratio to stoichiometry. Although the ECM varies the current, it tries to maintain the pump circuit at a constant voltage potential.

Some of our competitors require that you frequently perform a free-air calibration procedure to calibrate their O2 sensors. This process involves removing the sensor from the bung while still connected to the controller device, then waving the sensor in the air so it can read atmospheric O2 levels. We use 4.9 LSU sensors in our wideband controllers. Our sensors are individually laboratory-calibrated and never require free air calibration! Most AFR gauges are compatible with simple electrically-driven engines. However, some units use a different voltage from the system.

But what you also need to know regarding combustible engines is that gas isn’t the only part of the equation that’s important. That’s because combustible engines also use other ingredients to work so that they can function. This is where air and a spark come in as the engine needs to mix the gas with air and use a spark for the combustion to happen. Essentially, combustion is what allows the engine to work. Any Air-to-Fuel Ratio less than 14.7:1 is considered an AFR-rich mixture. On the contrary, any mixture that is greater than this AFR number is lean. #4. Is it better to run lean or rich AFR?? Besides, it will help you improve your car’s air-fuel ratio in its combustion chamber. As a result, your car engine will deliver maximum output as well as improved efficiency. Here at AutoMeter, we offer a wide selection of industry-leading Air Fuel ratio gauges to keep your vehicle from running too rich or too lean. With our vast assortment of both narrow band and wideband air fuel gauges to monitor your motor, avoiding expensive repairs has never been easier. Now in both digital and analog gauge styles. Another benefit of this AFR gauge is that reading the current status of your engine’s air-to-fuel ratio is easy. Thanks to its center display, which is around 87% bigger than some AEM models including the 30-4110 gauge.

No. There is a laser-etched, calibrated resistor in the sensor’s connector body. This resistor is specifically created for the exact sensor that it is attached to. Modifying this will invalidate the sensor’s output. Mixtures that are richer than stoichiometric allow for greater peak engine power when using vaporized liquid fuel due to the mixture not being able to reach a perfectly homogenized state so extra fuel is added to ensure all oxygen is burned producing maximum power. The ideal mixture in this type of operation depends on the individual engine. For example, engines with forced induction such as turbochargers and superchargers typically require a richer mixture under wide open throttle than naturally aspirated engines. Forced induction engines can be catastrophically damaged by burning too lean for too long. The leaner the air–fuel mixture, the higher the combustion temperature is inside the cylinder. Too high a temperature will destroy an engine – melting the pistons and valves. This can happen if one ports the head and/or manifolds or increase boost without compensating by installing larger or more injectors, and/or increasing the fuel pressure to a sufficient level. Conversely, engine performance can be lessened by increasing fueling without increasing air flow into the engine. NOTE: The 30-4100 Wideband UEGO Gauge Controller that uses the 4.2 LSU sensor will be superseded to the 30-4110 Wideband UEGO Gauge Controller that uses the 4.9 LSU sensor in August 2014. Instructions for the 30-4100 will still be available in the Instructions tab after this change. So, first things first, what you need to know is what the AFR stands for. It is basically the amount of air with respect to the amount of fuel used. As such, if the AFR gauge reads at 14.7, that means that it is using 14.7 parts of air per one part fuel. First of all, the kit includes around 7 fuel pressure gauges. Each of them comes in a different color, which allows them to be read easily by the users. Moreover, they can read pressure levels from 0 to 30 psi.
