Description

The make-up of all infant formula is as close to breast milk as possible, but it’s impossible to replicate all the ingredients found in breast milk. It's estimated that there are more than 100 substances in breast milk that aren't in baby formula. Plus, breast milk changes over time to provide the nutrients your baby needs. Keep in mind that lactose intolerance is not the same as a cow's milk allergy. Lactose-free formula contains cow’s milk proteins that are found in normal infant formula, so it isn't suitable for babies with a cow’s milk allergy. Boil 1 litre of freshly run water - don’t use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water. Leave the kettle to cool for 30 minutes and no longer. Measure the required amount of water (refer to feeding guide) into a sterilised bottle, whilst being careful of scalding. And for info. We tried gaviscon and she was constipated with that, not going for a few days at a time, straining constantly which resulted in us going to aptamil reflux milk which also worked for my older child who’s now 3.

It's common for some babies to bring up their feeds occasionally but if this is occuring more frequently, or in larger quantities, they may require dietary management. It is important to consult a healthcare professional before using this product. The cows' milk in formula contains 2 types of proteins – whey and casein. First infant formula is based on whey protein which is thought to be easier to digest than other types of formula. Research shows that switching to follow-on formula at 6 months has no benefits for your baby. Your baby can continue to have first infant formula as their main drink until they are 1 year old. In addition to infant formula and follow-on formula, there are a number of other baby formulas on the market that supposedly deal with specific conditions. Baby formula milk for colicWhen it’s time to feed your baby, make up their formula feed as you usually would. It’s important that the boiled water is still hot, to ensure that any bacteria present in the formula powder is destroyed. Goats' milk formulas are not suitable for infants with cows' milk allergy (also known as cows' milk protein allergy), as the proteins they contain are very similar. Hungrier baby formula (hungry milk) Cow & Gate Anti-Reflux is nutritionally complete, suitable as a sole source of nutrition from birth and as part of a weaning diet from 6 months to 12 months. Although it's often described as suitable for "hungrier babies", there's no evidence that babies settle better or sleep longer when fed this type of formula. Anti-reflux (staydown) formula Lactose-free formula is available in pharmacies and shops, but if you think your baby may be lactose intolerant, it's important to speak to a midwife, health visitor or GP. Hypoallergenic formula

Comfort formula is made from partly broken down (partially hydrolysed) proteins. It's not suitable for babies with cows' milk allergy. Follow-on formula Whole cows' milk is a suitable choice as a main drink for your child from age 1. Semi-skimmed cows' milk is a suitable main drink for children over 2 who are eating a balanced diet. Types of milk to avoid Approx. age: 4 months, Approx. weight: 6.5kg, 14 1/2lb, Preparation for single feeds: No. of level scoops per feed (1 scoop = 4.5g): 7, Preparation for single feeds: Quantity of water per feed 210ml, 7fl.oz, Preparation for single feeds: Number of feeds per 24 hours: 5 The theory is that the higher casein content helps to slow digestion and results in the baby feeling more satisfied and less hungry soon after feeding. Some of the formula manufacturers claim hungry milk can delay the start of weaning until the recommended time, for hungrier bottle-fed babies.Clean bottles and teats thoroughly: You should wash bottles, teats and other feeding equipment in hot, soapy water. Then rinse them with running water, after which they are ready to be sterilised. The difference is found in the protein make-up of the milk. Standard infant formula has a whey:casein ratio of 60:40, which is very similar to breast milk. Hungry baby formula has a whey:casein ratio of 20:80, which is similar to cow’s milk.
