A new month of exciting publishing has arrived, and we like to think of this as a little heat to jumpstart your summer reading. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. Teddy, the precocious and shy 5-year-old boy she's charged with watching, seems to be haunted by a ghost who channels his body to draw pictures that are far too complex and well formed for such a young child. Rekulak does a great job with character development: Mallory, who narrates in the first person, has an engaging voice; the Maxwells' slightly overbearing parenting style and passive-aggressive quips feel very familiar; and Teddy is so three-dimensional that he sometimes feels like a real child.

A year and a half later Mallory is coming out of rehab and needs a job and a place to live so when her sponsor lines her up a live-in nanny position for a pre school boy, in the very well-to-do area of Spring Brook, New Jersey – she is more than happy. I was right there with Mallory trying to figure out what was happening and why Teddy was drawing such disturbing pictures. They also help children develop their vocabulary, improve attention to detail and problem-solving skills, and build self-confidence-all while being incredibly fun to solve!

I received a free ARC of Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak from Macmillan in exchange for an honest review. from its numerous mentions of beloved terf j**nne to its "plot twist" that's just transphobe rhetoric 101. Hidden Pictures is one of those rare gems that’s aware of the rules of the genre even as it breaks them and invents new ones. Teddy’s latest drawing is of a man in a forest dragging a woman’s body and Mallory’s cottage has a disturbing past-an artist named Annie Barrett, who had been living in it years ago, disappeared-leaving behind a trail of blood and an unsolved mystery. With hundreds of objects just waiting to be discovered, you're in for page after page and hour after hour of fun! It gives the story a very spooky atmosphere with things starting to look bad for Mallory as no one takes her or concerns seriously. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil.

Mallory’s emotional side story really tugs at your heart, and there’s a darn good mystery that begins to unfold at the Maxwell house.

This is what the Maxwells' new babysitter Mallory is confronted with when she is employed to look after 5 year old Teddy. This collection includes all types of challenging Hidden Pictures puzzles, including photo puzzles, puzzles without clues, unscrambles, and more. Notes to my fellow New Jersey readers: Hidden Pictures is set in South Jersey (aptly so; there’s nothing scarier than South Jersey to this North Jersey girl), and I was psyched every time there was a shout out to my alma mater, Rutgers New Brunswick.Additionally, Mallory feels like Teddy's imaginary friend, Anya, may be the missing woman in question and she clearly is trying to communicate with them.
