Yetu remembers for everyone, and the memories, painful and wonderful, traumatic and terrible and miraculous, are destroying her. And so, she flees to the surface, escaping the memories, the expectations, and the responsibilities—and discovers a world her people left behind long ago. The Deep was featured across various segments on the VNN show hosted by Cameron Coleman. He was prominently the leading face of a drink advertisement titled The Deep x Liquid Death to promote saving the environment and reduce plastics which could kill ocean/marine life. However, after burning plastic trash and releasing toxic fumes near children, Liquid Death parted ways with The Deep as their Chief Sustainability Associate. stars. I enjoyed this immensely despite only reading it because I thought it was a shark book (whoops). In fact, I didn’t even notice until I was well over halfway through that - wait a minute - there weren’t any sharks yet. Huh.

Superhuman Durability: The Deep has shown the ability to withstand greater force against his body than that of normal human beings without experiencing physical harm. He was able leap off a giant boat into the water and survive unscathed. He has also claimed to have swam in the Mariana Trench, which has a water pressure in excess of 8 tons per square inch, or 1,000 times the standard atmospheric pressure at sea level, on the ocean floor. [6]She will find a way out from under the murk - one way or another. When not properly fortified, a legacy is no more enduring than a wisp of plankton.Ahhh... I'm not sure what to think. This story hit me hard from the very beginning. I was so angry at the Wajinru for putting the burden of their entire history all on Yetu's shoulders. All alone, in so much pain, pain they should have been sharing together rather than dumping it all on Yetu and it was killing her, literally. As the story progressed though I understood why they did it. I felt so much for Yetu. At times I related to certain things from being disabled, neuro-divergent and a rather sensitive INFP. I just wanted to hug Yetu and scream at the rest of the Wajinru that they were killing Yetu and didn't even seem to notice. Yasharoff, Hannah. "How 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' author Jeff Kinney became the king of COVID-19 book tours". USA TODAY . Retrieved 2021-02-10. Set against the rugged Tasmanian landscape, THE DEEP centres around the powerful Dempsey family and the drug trade they run under the guise of an abalone business. The family have had their share of betrayal and heartbreak, with the former head and his family, Jesse, disappearing without a trace 7 years ago. But when Forest Dempsey, Jesse’s son, washes up on the beach, the family are thrown into disarray as deeply buried secrets bubble to the surface. ⁣ De diepte' begint met het aanspoelen van een jongen op het strand. Het blijkt om de vermiste Forest Dempsey te gaan en hierdoor wilde ik snel verder lezen en er achter komen wat er met hem was gebeurd.

On the one hand, the concept caught me right away but on the other hand, I often found myself puzzled, lost or confused. Alma Katsu is a fantastic writer, with a unique ability to blur the lines of history, horror, humanity, and tragedy. Think Diana Gabaldon by way of Charlaine Harris. As with her exceptional novel, THE HUNGER, in THE DEEP Katsu takes on an infamous tragedy and adds her own haunting twists. A marvelous new addition to Katsu’s already impressive body of work.” BNEvents Live - Jeff Kinney discusses DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE DEEP END - YouTube". www.youtube.com . Retrieved 2021-02-11.

Whilst reading, I was overwhelmed with feelings that I was being told some wise and ancient lore; something dug up from the deepest depths of a rich oral history. The novel ends with the Harding-Pencroft ninth-graders, Luca and Ophelia, and a recovering Dr. Hewett vowing to rebuild the school. Ana takes Dev, who was being groomed to take over the facility but has now forfeited practically everything, to see their parents' final resting place in the lagoon near the Nautilus. [6] Reception [ edit ] From the acclaimed author of The Troop—which Stephen King raved “scared the hell out of me and I couldn’t put it down.…old-school horror at its best”—comes this utterly terrifying novel where The Abyss meets The Shining.

Benchley was from a literary family. He was the son of author Nathaniel Benchley and grandson of Algonquin Round Table founder Robert Benchley. His younger brother, Nat Benchley, is a writer and actor. Peter Benchley was an alumnus of Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard University. A riveting, seductively menacing tale of love, loss, and betrayal set amid the glamour of the Titanic…” – Library Journal (starred) The Deep is strangely beautiful and a strikingly impactful story of coming to terms with the savage and barbaric history of slavery and the ability to move past that and find inner peace. I genuinely really enjoyed the way Solomon uses fantasy in The Deep. It serves not as a way to erase the past, or even allegorize it, but to explore the aftermath of genocide and breathe in new life to the forgotten murdered along the Middle Passage. Ana Dakkar, the novel's protagonist and narrator, who turns 15 during the novel, is a student at Harding-Pencroft Academy, a fictional five-year boarding high school for marine sciences, situated on a remote bluff on the southern California coast.

MAAR... als je dus wél van criminaliteit en drugszaken houdt, dan is dit boek zeker wel een aanrader voor je! Het is dus echt geen slecht verhaal, je moet er alleen van houden. So down Luke, the protagonist of The Deep, goes. Down into the frigidly cold depths of darkest, unexplored sea. Down into a claustrophobic metal spider of a habitat protects its frail human and animal cargo from the immense pressure of the world outside. Down into a nightmare where the truth of Ambrosia, its origins, and its purpose are revealed. Thanks For this great content. This novella is so unique. There's an overriding feeling that comes from reading it that I cannot describe. I flew through this! THE DEEP is an atmospheric crime fic/thriller on par with the works of Jane Harper and Chris Hammer. ⁣

also was not expecting a really beautiful f/f romance and I loved that! (the wajinru are also all intersex and choose their own gender, if any) His devotion to the Church is such that he even signed over his bank account to Alastair. He married his current wife against his own preference at Carol's insistence. Because of his capacity of communicating with sea creatures, The Deep has at least a friendship with almost every sea creature he knows. He often tries to help them by rescuing them with the intent to return them to the ocean. He also suffers and mourns whenever one his aquatic friends are killed in front of him. In Season 2, when Deep attempted to stop The Boys by interposing a sperm whale, Butcher killed the whale by ramming his boat right into it. Instead of pursing The Boys, The Deep remained on the beach, mourning the death of Lucy, the name he had given to the sperm whale. From the bestselling breakout author of The Bluffs comes a heart-stopping new thriller set on the rugged coast of Tasmania about family bonds and betrayals, and the hidden dangers that lurk in the deep… It's tempting to compare the two-even wile reading-but these books do stand alone. There are some similarities mind you... Tasmania, the drug trade, police, the supernatural, and wayward kids.It has themes of being oneself, of being a part of a group and having a group history, of kinship, trauma, climate change. I'm sure there is even stuff I missed. It has powerful messages wrapped in a fantasy story with merfolk. I loved learning about the Wajinru and how they worked. I loved the arc the story went on as well as Yetu's character arc. I may have been angry for much of the story but it ends on hope and so beautifully, the ending had me sobbing. It moved me and it made me think. I had to put it down sometimes to really digest it as well as calm myself down. I enjoyed the hint of romance. I'd gladly read more from this world and these characters. That familiarity is part of what draws me to Perry's work. Being a fellow Tasmanian, I know the places that have inspired the novels have been there countless times, know the smells and sounds and sights. Not to mention, know the locals and the townships. It adds another layer to the incredible writing within these books.
