Oh dear,' said Mrs. Thomas, 'If it's not better by tomorrow she'll have to go the vee ee tee.' She said vee ee tee instead of vet so that Mog wouldn't understand. Mog hated going to the vet, but Mrs. Thomas thought she probably couldn't spell."

She has sold over 10 million books all over the world, making her one of the most successful children's authors on the planet. The vet's waiting room was full of people with other animals, all of which were sitting quietly with their owners. But not so Mog, she started creating such a fuss that soon the other animals joined in. This brought the vet out from his consulting room and he immediately realised that it was Mog who was causing the problem. Best known for The Tiger who Came to Tea, beloved author and illustrator Judith Kerr also created a more down-to-earth and routine-loving feline in her series of around 20 Mog stories based on her own family cat. The first, Mog the Forgetful Cat, was published in 1970, and the nonlinear series continued until shortly before Kerr’s death, aged 95 in 2019.

The children tell their parents that Mog doesn't seem quite right, and they say that if Mog isn't better by the morning she will have to go to the vee-ee-tee. I loved this language as, as an adult you might use this type of language so that children don't really understand what you are talking about. The following morning, Mog is off her food, she just lay on the floor feeling very sad. She was put into the cat basket, but stared meowing loudly because she knows something bad is about to happen. Georgina Goodchild, with dopey charm and plenty of expressive mews, plays Mog, a sensitive soul with vivid dreams of flying and taking things to heart. The unsentimental Kerr did show that Mog isn’t always the easiest cat to live with, but I refused to join in with the refrain of "Bother that cat!" as her behaviour isn’t so terrible, and it feels quite mean-spirited. These fantastic children's books feature the lovely, adventurous and forgetful cat Mog. Each instalment follows Mog as he finds his way through a series of situations alongside a cast of charming characters.

One day Mog was trying to catch a butterfly in the garden but jump and jump as she would, she could not catch it. But in making the attempt something went wrong with her paw and it was very, very sore. The most high-octane sequence is one at the vet, where Mog is being treated for a thorn in her paw and breaks out of the office and causes chaos in the waiting room (every pet owner’s worst nightmare). Through the use of costuming, the show wittily portrays the suggestion that pets and owners start to morph into one. When Mog injures her paw while chasing butterflies, the plump kitty is bundled off to the veterinarian, or "vee-ee-tee" as Mrs. Thomas is careful to call him, reasoning that while Mog might hate the vet, "she probably couldn't spell." Here Mog makes her discontent known, meowing loudly throughout the whole ordeal, bravely resisting as the vet attempts to extract her from her carrier basket, and taking the first opportunity to escape, after he has pulled a thorn from her paw. Chaos naturally ensues, as the dogs in the waiting room give chase, and the people attempt to restore calm. Mog dreams happily that night, but the vet is left a little less composed... She didn't begin her writing career until her own children were born when she started making books for them to read. All of our storybook resources are hand-made by teachers. Laura McEwen’s 1970s styling reflects the period in which the first books were written, with a geometric plywood house that would have been the height of modernity at the time, and Mr. Thomas wears a particularly fetching brown and orange cardigan. There also are some somewhat retro attitudes: Mr. Thomas (the deep-voiced Ben Vardy) wants to sit in his favourite chair (which seems to mean more to him than his own family) and read his newspaper in peace. At the same time, Mrs. Thomas (Kerry Lovell) frets over her boiling peas and parallel parking. Each book was written and illustrated by Judith Kerr. They were released between the years of 1970 to 2015, making the books one of the longest-lasting children's book series in history. He decided the best plan of action was to see Mog first so he took her into his surgery but at first Mog was uncooperative. Finally the vet managed to get a look at the paw and after a struggle he extracted a huge thorn and then was going to give her a pill to ease the pain. But Mog did not like that idea and she leapt off the table and ran into the waiting room, where once again chaos reigned!
